Annotations and deconstructions.

Annotations & Deconstructions.

Our first task was to deconstruct & annotate different types of newspapers. These newspapers ranged from a local newspaper to a national tabloid.

We split the work load between the three of us. Therefore we could effectively complete in our given time frame.

Firstly we deconstructed a local newspaper named "The Citizen".

As this was our first task, it was important to get off to a good start. We chose a story that seemed to relate to our community. This means that we could pick out key details that influenced the readers to become interested in this story, & as a result of this continue to read the newspaper.

We then had to study & compare this to national newspaper. The national newspaper we chose to annotate was 'The Guardian'

This was quite a news filled paper, in comparison to the Citizen which was more advertisement orientated.
We found that even on the front page of this newspaper that the news content over powered the amount of advertisement displayed on the newspapers front page. This is good because of the fact it is the first thing that a reader would look at, thus the amount of news means that they will be getting value for money.
The actual amount of advertisement is juxtaposed to the citizen, with only one small square of advertisement allowed in The Guardian. This can often determine the type of people that read the two newspapers. For example the upper class are more prone to reading The Guardian due to the fact it comes across more sophisticated.

Intro..yeah?

Structure.          Media studies.

We plan to achieve the highest marks possible for this project. In order to achieve this we must;

-
1.       Annotations and deconstructions – nationals (red top, quality tabloid and broadsheet); local newspapers (free and pay for) – first two pages in depth…
2.       News content of local paper – pie chart?
3.       Market research – surveys, visiting papershop, takes photos of posters, product placement
4.       Identify your target audience and brainstorm possible news features
5.       Advertisements – annotate and deconstruct, genre?
6.       Layout designs – similar/different to existing products…why?
7.       Images – anchorage (captions)
8.       Advert layouts – design possible options
9.       Poster – research posters
10.   History of local and free papers
11.   Production costs/timescales...roles within the paper

Our task would be a tough one but if my group pulled together i am sure we could come out of this project with fantastic results.
